Louisiana FFA members are given the opportunity to see state government in action on Capitol Day, a one-day event each May held at the state capitol in Baton Rouge. The morning begins with FFA members visiting the State Capitol building and observing Legislative committees and meeting with their respective state senators and representatives. A luncheon is held at the Capitol Park Welcome Center, which is within walking distance of the state capitol. During the luncheon, government officials speak and FFA members have an opportunity to thank their leaders for their support of FFA and agricultural education. The day concludes as FFA is introduced to the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate during the opening of the regular session.
It is the responsibility of the chapter to invite their senator and representative to the luncheon and schedule meetings with them.
Louisiana Agriscience Teachers/FFA Advisors:
We would like to invite you to join us at the annual Louisiana FFA Capitol Day that will be held on May 1, 2013. This is a very important activity for the FFA as we continue building relationships with our state legislators and relay the good news of agriculture education in Louisiana to these individuals. This is also a wonderful opportunity for you and your members to learn about the legislative process and observe our lawmakers in action.
Capitol Day is an excellent time to share information about our programs with our senators and representatives and to express concerns and issues with them about agricultural education and FFA. The reception/sign-in will begin at 10:30 AM and the luncheon will begin at 11:00 AM.
Send R.S.V.P. to zharrison@laffa.org and jtairov@agcenter.lsu.edu by April 24, 2013.
