John Whittington State Treasurer |
Hey guys, my name is John Whittington. I grew up in Springfield, LA in the woods, with no farm for miles. This lead to my love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Now don’t get me wrong, one of my favorite hobbies is still relaxing and reading a book (all of you stop screaming “Nerd!!”). My parents are Wade and Kelly Whittington. My mom is a stay-at-home mom, while my dad is a project manager for chemical plants. One of my dad’s favorite hobbies on trips is to drive by a plant and say, “I built that boiler, and that tower, and that….” I have two younger brothers named Lance and Thad. Our biggest family hobby is baseball. With the exception of my mom, the all time umpire, we all play at any opportunity.I go to Springfield High School, Home of the Bulldogs. As far as extracurriculars go, I am a BETA representative, construction manager of the Drama Club, and the announcer for the baseball team. The coach likes to say, “The Voice of the Bulldogs.” I have been in FFA for my entire high school career, and I have served as the Jr. Vice President, Treasurer, and Vice President for my chapter. My future plans are to attend LSU and earn a major in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in business. |

Maggie Beard State Sentinel |
Hello, my name is Maggie Beard. I live in a small, rural area of Louisiana in St. Landry Parish called Rosa. I am a senior at Beau Chene High School. My parents are Hals and Tracy Beard. I have four older sisters and no brothers. We have not been blessed with a boy in our family- just yet. My father is an agriculture teacher at Beau Chene High School and my mom is the principal at Washington Career and Technical Education Center. Three of my four sisters have followed in my father’s footsteps and have become Ag teachers, while the other one found interests in cosmetology. I, on the other hand, will continue in the Ag related career field as I plan to become a large animal veterinarian.
Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed being outdoors. Whether it was farming with my grandpa and father, working with my cows, cutting grass, hunting, fishing, or playing sports, there is always something about the outdoors that will grab my attention. In high school, I play basketball as well as softball. I am also involved with many school related activities and clubs. FFA and 4-H have been the two that I’ve participated in the longest. FFA is definitely the organization I am most active in because I participate in many different Career Development Events and remain involved with my Supervised Agriculture Experience. I have also joined Environmental club, Spanish club, honors society program, FBLA, and Youth Leadership Council. I am this year’s FFA Chapter President. FFA has and always will play a big role in my life. As I continue my education, I plan to attend Louisiana Tech University where I will major in Pre-Veterinary Science. Then, I hope to become a Tiger and hopefully get accepted into Veterinarian school at Louisiana State University. I have met incredible people through the FFA who have made a difference in my life. I hope to be that one person who make’s a difference in someone’s life as I spend this year of service in the FFA. Have a great year and, just as a reminder, never stop short of your goal and keep moving forward! |

Todd Manuel State Parliamentarian |
Common sa vais? Hi there I am Todd Manuel and on any given day you can expect me to vocalize my random and miscellaneous French vocabulary. Growing up around my grandparents, I picked up on a little French and still, to this day, wish I could learn more. Life here is very enjoyable even though it gets hectic at times being that I have 3 brothers and we know how to cause some “mesae” (trouble or mischief). Over the past several years I have been extremely involved in sports and other clubs in school. Many hours have been spent training for sporting events as well as for the competitions in the other clubs. I have literally gone for several sleepless nights in preparation for FFA events and competitions. Though if you were to ask me what most of my time is spent doing the simple word “work” would roll off my tongue. At a young age, I was taught that there is far more to working than simply completing the task at hand. The task should be completed with pride and honor no matter the size- large or small. Working is something I enjoy doing because of what I learned as a kid, and for that, I owe the greatest thanks to my dad. Though I enjoy working, I also enjoy learning new things and that is why I plan on attending Louisiana Tech University to major in Ag. Engineering and/or Agribusiness. In my future, I see many long and tiring hours spent working on many projects and tasks. I see many lessons I need to learn in life. I see a world that, though it can be scary, it can also be embracing. Finally, I see an amazing year ahead because I am blessed with the honor of serving Louisiana FFA with the most amazing friends ever. |
